Hesitant Frog Catcher

My brat is one of those kids who hesitates or is afraid of touching creepy crawly squishy animals. Its only dogs and cats that he can lovingly pet - all the rest, he practically runs away from - unless they are a safe distance away! His friend Shloka is exactly the opposite and does not hesitate to touch or pet any living or dead animal - lizards, frogs, dogs, cats, birds - all are the same to her and she even tries her best to keep them as pets at home!! Often in the evening, the kids in our apartment complex, go frog hunting and Adi either just watches at a distance or very cleverly escapes home.

However, it was a different story today. All the kids were playing downstairs and I went down in the hope of taking some pictures of all of them playing together. And I got the biggest surprise of my life when I saw Adi standing with two tiny frogs in his hands!! Seems like Shloka had finally convinced him that they were harmless and it was fun to catch them. Took a few pictures as soon as I could thinking that Adi would soon run away, but no, he was all set to catch some more (as long as they were baby frogs - he was still afraid of the big ones).

Udaipur - Oct 2011

Our last stop was at beautiful, beautiful Udaipur with its picturesque lakes, majestic palaces and surrounded by the Aravalli ranges (apparently the oldest mountain range in the world - according to the guides at Ranthambore). This was definitely the best amongst the 3 (had we spotted a tiger, Ranthambore would have made it to the top spot!) and we had the loveliest time here. Our hotel was right by the Lake Pichola and had excellent views of the City Palace, the Lake Palace and many other 5 star hotels. The restaurant had jharokhas facing the lake and had a very relaxing, regal and romantic atmosphere. Our first night at Udaipur also happened to be Diwali and we had the best view of the lights, lamps and the fireworks from the terrace. We did the usual sights but also relaxed a lot at Udaipur. The kids loved the hotel too and spent a lot of time on the jharokha playing video games and generally staying out of our way! Ah Bliss!! :)

Ranthambore - Oct 2011

After spending 2 days in Jaipur, we headed to Ranthambore with lots of hopes of seeing a Tiger in its natural habitat. Ranthambore National Park has been on my list of 'places to visit' for a very long time and I was thrilled that I was finally there. We reached late in the night and we had two safaris booked for the next day. So early in the morning, we were set for some serious tiger watching - with initially sleepy and later excited kids and all! The light of dawn, the sounds of the birds and the overall atmosphere of the park was simply fantastic. Soon as we entered the park we happened to see some fresh tiger  pug marks and we followed it hoping we would chance upon the big cat - but all we ended up seeing was some fresh tiger sussu and potty :) The tiger was elusive in the afternoon safari as well, but we didn't give up hope - we booked another safari for the next day!! Luck continued to evade us and after the third safari we finally gave up. Maybe another trip, another day. Ranthambore was not a completely disaster though - we loved the park, the sights and sounds were awesome, the drive fantastic and the conversations with the guides and their tiger tracking tricks and tips - hilarious, the memories - everlasting!!
